How to Update the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F to Official Android 5.0 Lollipop?

Samsung urges us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedure to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failure may cause damaged to your device that might result to what we called “soft-bricks”.  If this happened on your device, it may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.

Backup important data – You should back-up your important files, including contacts, emails, messages, photos, videos, apps and other stuff. Like I said while during software update process is interrupted there is a possibility that your data stored from your device internal SD card may lose or deleted when a sudden unexpected failure happened and it forces you to perform a factory data reset which basically wipes your phone’s memory.

Ensure that your Galaxy S5 should still running in the official Lollipop released build version and hasn’t been rooted – Your device should not be modified or rooted, there are some certain circumstances that a modified and rooted Galaxy S5 SM-G900F may not accept any official software update anymore or it can accept an update but it might harm your device once the update has made. Most known error that says ‘firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in Kies and try again‘ or “Your device has been modified Software update are not available” you should try to avoid that from happening.

Lollipop Update version G900FXXU1POF4 on Galaxy S5 G900F Features Wi-FI Calling support

There is a new Lollipop update version comes with build number G900FXXU1POF4 on Galaxy S5 G900F. The latter is released in Switzerland alone for the unbranded Galaxy S5.  While there is also  another build version dubbed as G900FXXU1POFA for the ones branded and under "Swisscom" network. Noting that Switzerland hasn't receive any new updates recently, so the update might be the special build for the said region.  The update brings the Wi-Fi calling support which allows users to activate the voice calling over WLAN.

Along with the update are security enhancements, including bug fixes and further improvements to performance.

Here's what the technical details says on both updates;

Unbranded Galaxy S5 G900F:
Android version: 5.0

Another Lollipop update build version G900FXXU1POEH is recently send out on Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) which is now held available in Nordic countries.   This isn't the first time we have seen an odd build firmware build version that  has now starts with letter "P" as compared to the usual releases that starts with "B" and  "A".  Just like the ones  on Vodafone's Galaxy S5 update which was dubbed with build version G900FXXU1POE2 and many other related build numbers.

UK's Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F under Everything Everywhere (EE) network is presented with another Android 5.0 Lollipop update which has a released build version of G900FXXU1POBK. The released build details G900FXXU1POBK is quite somehow so unique since we all knew that the build number of Lollipop updates came out was under the letter "B" series lineup, just like the newer released Europe with dubbed with build version G900FXXU1BOB7. The latter now starts with letter "P" and its seems Samsung has started to change the most used and frequent firmware build pattern among on both unbranded and carrier branded devices. This might be a new moved on Samsung and Android developer's side just to differentiate and specifies a carrier branded firmware build. Noting that carrier branded devices got its own loads of apps. Who knows? Of course we will only know if we can see another carrier branded Galaxy S5 Lollipop update soon that will also starts in letter "P" series.

Since the EE's Galaxy S5 already got the Lollipop update earlier this month to build version G900FXXU1BNL9, so the G900FXXU1POBK is the second Lollipop update on EE alone.

Lollipop Update G900FDXU1BOC2 on Galaxy S5 G900F Singapore

The Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F got a new 5.0 Lollipop update to build version G900FDXU1BOC2 in Singapore alone. The latter will replace the first build version G900FDXU1BOB5 which just recently rolled out last few days ago.  There might be a severe  issues have had found  on the first update 'BOB5' which of course Samsung ironed it out in juts a matter days.  This is seems looks the same thing  happened to the official Lollipop update 5.0 G900FXXU1BOB7 which released  in Europe  which took around some few builds before a more tangible Lollipop update came out.

Here are technical details of the 5.0 Lollipop G900FDXU1BOC2;

Device name: Galaxy S5
Model number: SM-G900F
Android version: 5.0
Baseband version: G900FDXU1BOC2
Kernel version: 3.4.0-4331963
Build Number: LRX21T.G900FDXU1BOC2

While taking  a closer look at it,  you can see that it has the same kernel build version as "3.4.0-4331963" compared  to the first Lollipop  update G900FDXU1BOB5.  So once anyone took the G900FDXU1BOC2 Lollipop update it might have just  some minor tweaks added on it but cannot expect any major effect on its looks and design.

Android Version: 5.0
Baseband version: G900FDXU1BOB5
Kernel version: 3.4.0-4331963
Build Number: LRX21T.G900FDXU1BOB5

Samsung always urge us to prepare the following important notes to consider before performing the software update.  I have also added some useful insights why you should follow this procedures to keep your  phone in safe.

Recharge the phone’s battery – You should make sure your device is fully recharged before performing the software update. Do not also remove the battery during the software update is in progress. A power failures may cause damaged to your device that might results as we so-called “soft-bricks”. If this happens your device may just stuck on Samsung logo or welcome screen and can’t reboot normally.

This is usually how the carrier branded or locked Samsung Galaxy S5, performs a software update.  This method is Firmware Update through over the air or called as OTA update, which most often  a notification message will directly sent to you from your network provider or Samsung and notifies you that there is a new update available for download.  If you did not receive any notification messages you can manually check for the update instead.  Doing this you may only tap on your Galaxy S5 SM-G900F Settings>>About Device, tap Software Update.

Galaxy S5 G900FXXU1BOB7 5.0 Lollipop Update, Silent mode is back

A new Lollipop software update version G900FXXU1BOB7 is hitting on Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F once again.  The G900FXXU1BOB7 is still in Android 5.0 Lollipop base  next to the previous G900FXXU1BOA3 . The latter has just rolled out in United Kingdom at this moment  but the firmware build itself also indicates  a 'multi CSC' that also points to other countries in Europe.  So chances are that the rest of Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F users might also get this update soon.

Since we already seen the Android 5.0 in action so there is nothing to expect any major changes about this update. But some significant adverse effect I noticed about the G900FXXU1BOB7 is that the "Silent mode" feature has returned back.  On previous updates we knew that  the "Silent mode" was removed but now you can see it again in status bar.  I also noticed that the screen brightness seem also reduced at around 10% level  which is a bit dimmer than before even I set it up to 100%.  I can't see any improvements  in battery life performance as it's still fresh but I'm still monitoring it on a different usage.

Furthermore, the G900FXXU1BOB7 Lollipop update weights  323.39MB in file size. It is held both available via Over-The-Air and Kies but then again can only be seen in UK at this moment. I'll just keep you updated if and when it also arrives in some countries.

The technical details of the G900FXXU1BOB7 Android 5.0 Lollipop update reads as follows:
  • Device: Samsung Galaxy S5
  • Model number: SM-G900F
  • Android version: 5.0 (Lollipop OS)
  • Baseband version G900FXXU1BOA3

  • SE for Android status Enforcing
  • AP: G900FXXU1BOB7
  • CSC: G900FOXA1BOB7
  • CP: G900FXXU1BOB7

Again, the G900FXXU1BOA7 is only available for UK’s unbranded Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F users.  The rest of European countries might also start seeing the same update these following days. I still seeing the G900FXXU1BOA3 released for those who got a carrier branded Galaxy S5  G900F. Those who have not seen the Android 5.0 Lollipop update yet, might better manually check it via Over-the-air (OTA) update or using Kies. G900FXXU1BOA3 Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Arrived in UK, First firmware build in 2015

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update has finally reaches in UK Samsung  Galaxy S5 users.  A unique software build number G900FXXU1BOA3, indicating a fresher build this year. The three last digits letters "OA3", the  "O" basically emphasized as a date of a year "2015", while letter "A" holds the first month of the year which is "January"  and the number "3" shows how many revisions has its made.

In addition,  if one might have to ask why Samsung had to released another firmware build version in UK whilst the rest of European countries has the same build version. Well, maybe it just happens that UK's Galaxy S5 just got delayed a bit and there is nothing to argue with that. If we take a closer look to the firmware build G900FXXU1BOA3 itself, it has a similar changes-value to the previous Android 5.0 G900FXXU1BNL9. It is simply means that nothing more any special added features to it. But noting that the G900FXXU1BOA3 is the newer build and had been into several revisions, then there is a possibility that it might be something a lot better than the previously rolled out.

However, the United States version of Samsung Galaxy S5, including  AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and  Sprint has no signs of any official Android 5.0 Lollipop update yet. And so does in Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Middle East and Latin America at this time being. But let's hope that it will going to arrive very soon!
